All About Weight Loss Pills
Do weight loss pills really help you lose weight?
If you’ve ever searched for weight loss information on the internet you would have encountered weight loss pills. They are advertised everywhere and market themselves as a miracle cure for overweight people.
In this post I’ll look at whether or not they really work and what all the hype is about.
What exactly is a weight loss pill?
The majority of weight loss pills on the market are pure appetite supressors. What this means is that everytime you take a pill it goes to work in your body and stops you from being hungry. So, ideally you will lose weight by the mere fact you are not eating as much.
Do they work?
Whether or not weight loss pills work is a big debate. Many people think they have little to no effect on weight loss while other people rave about them as the next big hit.
I have a few problems appetite suppressor type weight loss pills. Firstly, we should all know by now that eating less does not mean that you will lose weight. In fact, it can quite often mean the opposite.
You see your body has certain automatic responses that have been programmed into it for generations. If you start eating less your body will panic and think that food is running out and slow down your metabolism. This means you will keep fat on as an extra energy source. A much better way to lose weight is to eat more often. This means that your body is constantly digesting small amounts of food throughout the day. It knows there is lots of nutrition around and the constant stream keeps your metabolism revving.
My second problem with weight loss pills that suppress the appetite is that you do not eat as much food as you NEED to be eating. What I mean by this is that in today’s modern world we already struggle to get the right amount of vitamins and minerals. To quash your appetite so that you eat even less healthy food is not a good thing. Women especially need to monitor their nutritional intake as calcium and other vitamins can become very important in later life and during the developing years.
Are there other types of weight loss pills?
There are a few other types of weight loss pills on the market and more are being tested and developed at the moment. Some of them are involved in speeding up certain chemical processes whilst others try to block the absorbtion of certain fats and sugars. I will talk more about these at a later date.
